Scolymia or Doughnut corals are single polyp animals - one of the largest in nature. These specimens are in high demand as they can be found in wide variety of vivid colorations. Scolys prefer placement on the rockwork or a hard subrate as they are easily damaged when covered by sand.
There are several different LPS known as Brain corals. These include Wellsophylia (Flat Brain), Trachyphillia (Open Brain) and Lobophyllia (Brain). Much like Scolys, Brain corals come in a wide variety of colors include reds, greens, metallic and rainbow. Careful placement is important to prevent damage to the soft tissue on the underside of the coral as well as preventing damage to adjacent animals from sweeper tenticles.
